Chi Chapter participiates in a number of activities here at Penn State University. Supporting both our college and community. Following is a highlighting of some of those that the Chi brothers enjoy most.

Intramural Sports

Penn State offers sports competition for all levels of athlete.  We can't all be ncaa football stars, but that doesn't stop the brothers of Chi chapter from competing in less "televised" venues.  In recent years we've formed teams for flag football, soccer, indoor volleyball, basketball and dodgeball (we owned at dodgeball). These were through official intramural programs associated with Penn State, but we also play a number of different sports more casually as pick up games - you can find us on the HUB lawn or the IM soccer fields.

The Nittwits

Our brothers have always helped to cheer on the men's basketball team, but one took it to the next level and founded a student section revolution known as the Nittwits.  Justin Casavant (class of spring '02) felt that Penn State football shouldn't steal all the limelight, especially when men's ncaa basketball is so much faster paced and we have beautiful facilities like the Bryce Jordan Center.

The Penn State Nittwits is an official University-recognized club open to all students who have a passionate interest in Penn State basketball, and are season ticket holders.

According to their Constitution, their purpose is twofold:

  • To foster excitement and support for the basketball programs of the Pennsylvania State University.
  • To gather, organize, and educate current students in support of the Penn State basketball programs.

THON

(Taken from http://www.thon.org)

The largest student-run philanthropy in the world, the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) is a year round fundraising event benefiting The Four Diamonds Fund, Conquering Childhood Cancer, at the Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey, PA. The year culminates in a no-sitting, no-sleeping, 46-hour dance marathon held every February. Over the past 35 years, the students of THON have raised more than $50 million and have helped thousands of children and families fight pediatric cancer.

During THON weekend, 700 dancers and thousands of supporters come together in the hopes of one day finding a cure for pediatric cancer. Whether standing for two days as a dancer, entertaining the crowd, taking care of the facility, or even standing in the bleachers, every person at THON plays a small part in creating an amazing atmosphere of love, compassion, and understanding. This atmosphere inspires the students to fundraise throughout the year and tells the families of The Four Diamonds Fund that they have the care and support they need. This collective effort, involving more than 15,000 students, has become one of Penn State's greatest and most unifying traditions.
